Through years of experience, Dr. Manios has found that facial aesthetics, including treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, intertwines the sciences with the arts. He believes an injector should have both an artist’s eye and a doctor’s trained touch to create the best results. This is the balance he strives to provide to each of his patients.
What are Lip Fillers?
Lip fillers are Dermal Fillers that target your lips to give them more volume and a luscious, natural look. The key ingredient is Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a gel-like substance that your body naturally creates to provide your skin with a smoother, plumper appearance. The HA used in most dermal fillers is a synthetic one that is made in your body which makes it safe for use and can be dissolved naturally over time. Christopher Manios, MD offers some of the most advanced and popular hyaluronic fillers available, Juvederm and Restylane.

What’s the First Step?
The first step in getting Lip Fillers in the East Bay is to contact our Danville office and request a consultation. During this appointment, you will have your lips examined by Dr. Manios who will ask you questions about your medical history, and the appearance you are looking to achieve and discuss which filler could be the best for you. If you agree with the plan made for you, you can receive your Lip Filler injection immediately, or you can reschedule with our Patient Coordinator for another day and time.
If you do plan on getting Lip Fillers the same day as your consultation, we strongly recommend that you avoid wearing lipstick or lip balm of any kind, as it will have to be removed before the injection can begin.
What to Expect on the Day of Lip Fillers
When are ready to receive your Lip Fillers, we will apply a topical anesthetic to your lips so that your experience will be more comfortable, which should take about 15 minutes to numb your lips. Dr. Manios will use a very thin needle to inject the filler into targeted parts of your lips, which can include the vermillion border (edges of your lips), your Cupid’s bow (the curve in the center of your upper lip), and the corners of your mouth. While you shouldn’t feel any pain during the treatment thanks to the topical anesthetic, many patients do feel a pinching sensation from the needle injection which may make your eyes tear up.
After the injections are complete, you will be given an ice pack to gently rest on your lips to prevent excessive swelling and bruising. Dr. Manios will gently massage your lips so that they can absorb the filler. Before you leave, we will keep you at our office for about 15 minutes to ensure that you don’t get dizzy or nauseous.
While not every treatment is the same, most treatments will take between 30 minutes and two hours.
Lip Fillers Recovery
Once your treatment is complete and we have released you, you will be able to return to your normal activities. Please bear in mind that your lips will be swollen, bruised, and sensitive for the first few days. We like to recommend our Lip Filler patients take it easy during the first day or so and avoid strenuous activities, pursing their lips, kissing, or using a straw. You should also drink plenty of water, and avoid lip balm, lipstick, or any other products applied to your lips for at least 24 hours. If you do experience any pain or swelling, you can use an ice pack, but try to keep the application of it to ten minutes at a time.
